Studies of critical physical and technical issues of superconducting accelerator based SASE-FEL |

Study the physical mechanism and critical technologies of SASE-FEL(Self-Amplified Spontaneous Emission-free electron laser) which is based on superconducting accelerator and energy recovery. Superconducting accelerator with 30Mev to 40Mev, the transport system for ERL and focusing undulator about 4m to 5m will be built. The laser operation in the region of infrared and energy recovery of electrons will be achieved. The theory and experiment of high gain short wavelength FEL and critical technology of energy recovery will be mastered. Explore the new approach for the fourth generation light sources based on ERL. Fabrications of the electron gun of photocathode, high-energy electron beam compressor, and diagnostic system of electron beams will be performed and assembled together. The facility for IR-FEL based on ERL will be installed and commissioned. The experimental facility will be perfected step by step. Relative theory and experiment will be performed. The software of experiment will be developed. In the process, new methods will be put forward to improve the experiment.
Based on a series of critical technologies of DUV-FEL, which include the electron gun of photocathode, undulator, vacuum, electron beam compressor, diagnostic system of electron beams, seeding laser and linac accelerator with 100Mev to 150Mev, the facility of high gain short wavelength FEL will be assembled. The laser operation in UV(500~300nm) and the whole process of FEL will be studied. The critical technology for short wavelength FEL will be mastered.
Based on the experience, the conception design research for X-ray FEL will be given.
